The Digital Road to Fame

HOW THE INTERNET CAN MAKE YOU FAMOUS

We all want attention.

Love it or hate it, with its slowness and random errors, Myspace is the most popular networking website. It's easy to use and you can become "friends" with people like Dane Cook. It's a great place for bands, comedians, and filmmakers to promote their work and expand their fan-base. Some users are even starting to promote themselves. Behind the clutter of billions of profiles where people express themselves, there is a growing business platform. People are using Myspace to try and get famous.

Screw talent agents, make a name for yourself... all by yourself.

One success story can be seen here at Christine Dolce's (aka "Forbidden's") Myspace page. She has become a self-made model by promoting herself on the site. Her popularity grew so large that she cut a deal and started her own clothing company called Destroyed Brand and has also launched her own official website. She is recognized by Maxim and Playboy, and made it to #28th spot on AskMen.com's Top 99 Women of 2007. I wouldn't say I really prefer her style but it's still an impressive story.

Some other user-driven websites that are used for
"self-promotion" :
  • YouTube
  • deviantART
  • Facebook
  • Blogger!
  • Xanga
  • Bebo
Happy self-expression, self-publication, and now maybe even self-promotion!
